Fairhope wants to maintain control within 1½-mile jurisdiction

The Fairhope City Council expressed strong concerns Monday that Baldwin County commissioners would intrude on the city’s zoning authority if they pass new flood-prone zoning regulations as they are currently written.

“We need to ask them not to move forward with anything unless they consult with us,” Council President Bob Gentle said. “I think we need to show our colors now.”

The City Council passed a resolution to send a letter to the commission outlining specific conflicts that they want resolved before the county moves forward. Mayor Tim Kant presented the letter to the commission Tuesday morning.
