Family Promise of Baldwin County — a new community agency — will begin helping Baldwin’s homeless families this month.
“The No. 1 reason for homelessness in Baldwin County is a lack of affordable housing,” said Mike Brokowsky, director of Family Promise of Baldwin County. “Many of them have jobs, but it takes too much of their paycheck for them to get affordable housing. They’re teetering every week and living paycheck to paycheck.”
Family Promise plans to operate a day center in Robertsdale, where people can find assistance with housing, transportation, job training and other services.
Also, local churches will four house homeless families for a week at a time — often in classrooms or fellowship halls — while Family Promise provides the children with rides to school.
