Fairhope man charged with enticing, sodomy

A 33-year-old Fairhope man has been accused of giving alcohol to a 16-year-old girl and then sexually assaulting her in his car this past weekend.

James William Smith was arrested in the early-morning hours Saturday and charged with second-degree sodomy, enticing a child and providing alcohol to a minor, according to Fairhope Police.

Fairhope Police spokesman Sgt. Craig Sawyer said the incident began late Friday night, just before midnight, when Smith and the teen were at the same Fairhope residence. Smith is accused of convincing the girl to get into a car and giving her alcohol.
