The City Council passed an agreement Monday that granted developers tax incentives to build a 69-acre retail center already under construction along Interstate 10 near Lowe’s.
The measure passed 4-2, making the Renaissance Center the city’s second development to be partly created using improvement bonds in a special-tax district.
Council members Cathy Barnette and Gus Palumbo voted against it, insisting that incentives are no longer necessary to encourage growth in the fast-developing area surrounding the intersection of U.S. 90 and Alabama 181. Those who voted in favor said the incentives helped a project that should keep Chris Myers Auto Mall within the city.
Daphne OKs Renaissance incentives
With all of the development going on around this area is an incentive really needed?
