School board postpones lease vote

The county school board postponed leasing a 5-acre tract to Magnolia Springs for free, a decision that leaves town officials in limbo about land in the heart of the county’s newest municipality.

The seven-member Baldwin County Board of Education had been scheduled Thursday to approve a lease agreement for the land adjacent to Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department. But board members decided during Monday’s work session to investigate the land’s appraised value before making a final decision.

Several board members said they want to consider whether the land should instead be sold.
