Wilson’s Service Center owner attacked, robbed

The well-known owner of a service station that has long been an unofficial meeting place for Spanish Fort residents was critically injured during a robbery Saturday morning, authorities said.

Arthur “Bobby” Wilson, who has owned and operated Wilson’s Service Center since the early 1960s, suffered several skull fractures during an attack before the assailant left with cash from the shop, according to Kevin Jerkins, who has worked for Wilson for 25 years. Wilson, 70, remained in critical condition Saturday night at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, according to a nursing supervisor.

“This is one of the biggest crimes in Spanish Fort history,” Jerkins said.

UPDATE: Friends and family say Mr. Wilson remains in intensive care at USA Medical 24 hours after the brutal attack at his service station early Saturday morning. Doctors have indicated that it is a good sign when a patient is able to be stabilized during the first 24 hour period. Mr. Wilson’s family remains encouraged and prayerful.
