The arrest of a 21-year-old Jamaican man who lived in an apartment complex that sits next to Fairhope High School has raised new concerns regarding the housing and the foreign workers residing there. Euclyn Ellis, who worked the bell stand in front of the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, was charged last week with second-degree sodomy involving a 13-year-old girl.

i am one of ellis class mate at utech and i just heard that he got 10 years in prison on august 2, 2007
@ richard: I doubt very seriously that the only reason they charged him was because he’s black. Perhaps it was because they investigated a serious crime and had evidence to support arresting him. The paper reported that, “Ellis was not on duty at the time, and should not have been on hotel property.” Why was he even there at that time of night?

When you spread wrong information…your only speading chaos!He was not sentenced(therefore,he did not get any years!) because he did not have a trial.I think this site and administrator should seek to get a more current info on this young man as you would be surprised to find out what is the latest in this saga.Thanks

i know euclyn for some time now and know him to be a well behaving young and always try to help and i do belive that some is wrong some were it do not adds up.

Dear Concerned writers,
I, too, am concerned about Euclyn. I was one of the persons he spoked with when he was jailed. He has a lawyer but, at the time I use to speak with him he seem to be ignorant of where he was at (in terms of the process) and he was eager to get out and come home. As a true Christian Jamaican, He spoke about the opportunity he was given to preach to other in lock up and he was maintaining a positive attitude.
But that was when he was able to speak with us on a regular basis and that was like three and four times a day. Unfortunately that priveledge was cut abruptly and a letter I wrote to him was returned. But that just spoke to the ignorance we took when we went into a different country.
Recently, I heard that he will be sent home but was unable to verify that information. What the authorities need to do is to clarify for us what sodomy means in the context of Euclyn. Also, is it the girls father or is it her step-father, who, I understand is also from another country. It also is a fact that at least one other Jamaican male lost his job as a result of some unexplained happenings with some vague similarities to Euclyn’s case.
My advise to Jamaican males is that they be careful and seek to get as much information about there new environment in cases like these.
My contention with the authorities in Alabama is that even though we (International students) benefit from these work programmes the business community paints me a picture that suggests that we cannot be engaged in a more meaningful way. By that I mean, we go to these states and it is as if there is no compassion for us from the “head”. Things can work better than they are because we all are benefitting. How does this point relates to Euclyn’s case? Look how many places of employment there are in Gulf Shores. If there was some amount of unity at play in Gulf Shores the possibility is that Euclyn would have been in Gulf Shores rather than miles awayrom the rest of us.

Its sad what happened to Euclyn and its a little unfair that they are taking that long to come to a conclusion. Hope hes ok and that they are lenient with their decision.I mean hes human and everyone deserves a chance.It shoudnt be hard for one to give him a chance since he never knew that she was thirteen.If yall havent noticed those girls do look a little big for their age. Atleast when compared to the girls in Jamaica.

I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING THE RELEVANT AUTHORITIES THAT LINKS JAMAICA AND ALABAMA, BUT NOTHING HAS HAPPENED.
NO ONE HAS REPLIED TO MY LETTERS OR FONE CALLS, WHEN I WROTE AND EMAILED THE AMERICAN EMBASY HEAR IN JAMAICA THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE MATTER, THIER ONLY RESPONSIBILITY IS TO INFORM A NEXT OF KIN.

Hey there i am one of his colleages at utech in the same class he was in before his mess but i must say i miss him u know cause he was just outstanding in our class but hey everything works out for the best for them that trust in God. I am really concerned about Euclyn this is going to be two years in a months time, and we know what as happened to him. Did he ever got a trial what is progress, how is he coping. can there be some new information on the website for us to see.
The court says one is innocent until found guilty-Euclyn has not been found guilty. How can he be found guilty 4 something that never happened. How can he b found guilty when he has not had an official day in court as the accused with the accuser(girl in question) present to give account of what happened by both party involved. How can he b found guilty when no evidence has been gathered against him. This is non-sense. The court summons the accusers the “supposed” victim n the result is a no call no show. Y is it that the media doesn’t give coverage of that! Since the accusers av failed to show up 4 court Y then is he still being held after so long without ANY evidence against him.
Itz amazing how the elaborate details of what would make readable gossip always blaze the headlines but not the truth behind the gossip. Y is it that the media has not gotten hold of nor release the fact that he has tried to contact just about every state official to look into his case and none of them has ‘responded’ to his request.
If the allegations were true I would not condone his wrong doing, but they are not so am supporting him.
Be not dis-heartened the righteous will be vindicated remember Joseph n patiphor’s wife….Itz not over. Keep the faith there’s hope. By the way y don’t they get serious about this case look into the surveillance camera of the hotel for the night in question, and have Euclyn, the “girl” in question n her step-father all take polygraph test and get this over with n C who would pass with flying colors!
I was just here and I remember Euclyn who I have known for a very long time. We have not heard anything about his case. Could some light be shed on the issue. We in Jamaica would be grateful, its painful not knowing.
